Validation

Prevent mistakes and lost time by using our Quality Assurance Tools to ensure events are firing correctly.

Introduction

Event validation is crucial to ensure that LionAnalytics events are implemented correctly. Failure to validate risks in rolling out releases that are incorrectly instrumented. In the case of wrong instrumentation, extracting insights may not be possible, and Looker dashboards may not work.

Methods of Validation

Choose either option (whichever one is easier for you):

  1. LionPortal LionAnalytics QA Tool: LionPortal → Support → Lio nAnalytics QA displays recent events fired from your device.

This method requires LionPortal access. If you currently do not have access, please contact your Lion Studios Product Manager.

  2. Looker Explore: Events QA: This Looker Explore shows the aggregate of the entire user base for the events and parameters fired. Note that this data is not realtime and there is a delay from when events are fired and appear in this dashboard.

This method requires Looker access. If you currently do not have access, please contact your Lion Studios Product Manager.

Requirements of Validation

Independent of the tool of choice, the following needs to be checked for each implemented event:

  • The event name appears on the tool
  • The required parameters of the events are present

LionAnalytics QA Tool

The LionAnalytics QA tool lets you view the event stream from a registered device in near-real-time (less than 1 minute between firing the event and the event payload becoming available). This tool includes multiple search and filter options and export and sharing. Each submission creates a unique URL to share in Slack, Asana, Salesforce, or other platforms.

Looker Events QA

These Looker Explores show the aggregate of the entire user base for the events and parameters fired. Note that this data is not realtime and there is a delay from when events are fired and appear in this dashboard. If you added a new event, your data might not yet appear in Looker. Note we provide two links below - one with a list of events for your game and a second where you can view parameters for a selected event. Use both to validate your events and parameters.
